In 2020, we were planning to have our first Ensembles Day, which hopefully we can finally have this year instead!
This day would provide students with the opportunity to play in an ensemble! 🎶
Students wanting to participate in this day, will be placed in ensembles based on numbers, instrument, age and ability. Songs will be chosen for each ensemble (encouraging students’ ideas and input!), and the music for the allocated ensemble will be learnt during normal lessons alongside their normal music, in preparation for the Ensembles Day. Then, on the day, each ensemble will have a teacher who will be their conductor/ensemble director, and who will direct and guide students, putting together all the parts, to create an ensemble of players working together to create music! 🎶🎻🎸🎺🎷🎹
With the song/s rehearsed by the ensembles, we thought about having a mini concert at the end of the day with parents/friends, and/or if it is held close to the concert, then maybe have some ensembles perform at the concert! ✨
Playing in an ensemble develops so many skills, including teamwork, cooperation, confidence, listening/aural skills, responding and implementing feedback, and just so many forms of communication – visual/eye contact, gestures/body language, listening to other instruments and instructions, and communicating ideas through speech. Honestly, the list of skills one can gain from an ensemble could go on and on, which is why we are so excited to be able to offer it in the hopefully not too distant future! It’s also a great place to make friends, whether you’re an adult, teenager or child! 😊
Although the Coronavirus Pandemic prevented us from organising this opportunity in 2020, it was only postponing the inevitable! This year in 2021, we are hoping to finally get to organise this amazing day! More specific information will be sent out to students closer to the time, which will be dependant on Coronavirus restrictions.
