Yesterday I watched the Prime Minister live, when he announced an update on the Coronavirus measures. The National Cabinet decided to increase restrictions on places of social gatherings, for which the PM listed a number of facilities which will be required to close. I was very uncertain as to whether this included us, until a journalist asked about whether the restrictions included other businesses not mentioned, like hairdressers. The PM replied that it did not, it only included the facilities mentioned, as they were identified as places of non-essential high volume gatherings.
(See the information from the Media Statement, with the listed facilities here: https://www.pm.gov.au/media/update-coronavirus-measures-220320 )
Just to be sure, today I called the COVID-19 Information Line (1800 020 080), and I explained our situation and the precautions we have put in place, and that my parents are in the high risk category (due to age and immune system). The response was that we are doing all the right things with the social distancing, the hand sanitiser, wiping of surfaces and door handles, and the air purifiers. Based on everything we are doing, and the current advice, they said that we are all good to continue lessons in person, and we plan to offer this for as long as we can.
Over the past week, on an individual basis, as people have expressed concerns, we have offered the option of a lesson over Skype, as an alternative to coming in person. Although they will never be as good as having a lesson in person, they have proven to be a great alternative and have worked well during this uncertain time. After the Prime Minister’s Media Statement last night, we recognise that more people may prefer to have a Skype Lesson.

Therefore, for Current Students we will now be offering both Skype Lessons and Lessons in Person!
However, all Trial Lessons will now be conducted via Skype until further notice!
If you would like to book in for a $10 Trial Lesson via Skype, “Contact Us” to find out more and receive some easy instructions as to how it will work! :)
For Current Students who would like their lessons in person, below is a recap, as well as some *new precautions, being implemented this week:
- *Students will be contacted and asked some simple health-related questions prior to attending their lesson.
- Students and accompanying family members/friends, must use some hand sanitiser in the entry, before the lesson.
- Teachers will also use this hand sanitiser before and in between each lesson.
- The hand sanitiser contains 72% alcohol, which is above the recommended “over 60% alcohol” in an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.
- *No more than 1 adult and 1 child (total 2 people) should accompany the student inside for their lesson, and they must be seated on the couch in the backroom or the decking, in order to maintain social distancing.
- For lessons, we will stick to using the bigger rooms, like the Salon and Decking, and avoiding the use of the Office when possible. This will allow for more space and ventilation.
- In the main areas of the house *AND the rooms where lessons are conducted, we have air purifiers operating, which filter and purify up to 99.99% of airborne pollutant particles that pass through the system – including pollen, bacteria, dust mites, viruses, smoke and other impurities as small as 0.009 microns from the air. One of these viruses includes Coronavirus.
- During lessons, teachers may keep more distance than usual (which was never ‘face-to-face contact’ anyway), and avoid direct contact when possible. Direct contact is not always avoidable due to the need to help the student, however the previously mentioned hand sanitiser should cater for the minimal unavoidable contact required for a lesson.
- If you are sick or unwell, but feel well enough for your lesson, please call the ‘Amber’s Music Lessons’ phone number (0419 320 464), *to organise a Skype lesson instead.
- Regularly touched surfaces, including doorknobs, the gate handles, doorbell, piano keys etc. are being wiped regularly with anti-bacterial and disinfectant wipes.

As we go along, we may implement other precautions without notification, however if there are any significant changes in the situation, we shall send an update accordingly.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding attending lessons or Skype lessons, please contact Amber to discuss this further.
